July - Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is established with the Treaty of Chaguaramas. Founding Members were Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago. |

October Beginning of the oil crisis when OPEC members plus Egypt and Syria shut off supply to United States and other Western nations as well doubled oil prices as retaliation action against the Israeli supporters in the Yom Kippur War. This event represented the first example of the developing countries united to use economic power against developed countries. |

November Lima Convention constituting the establishment of OLADE Latin American Organization for Energy ratified by 26 countries. In 2001 Algeria assumed special membership. |

United Nations Resolution according to Resolution N°3251 (XXIX) set up the Special Unit to Promote Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries (TCDC) coordinated by UNDP. |

UN General Assembly adopts Declaration for the Establishment of a New International Economic Order request of G-77 and NAM Summit of Algiers in 1973. |

Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is set up. Members are: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. |

June Establishment of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRTCIC) a subsidiary of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) |
